West Coast Regional Council Sworn In After Elections

The West Coast Regional Council has officially sworn in its new council following recent local elections. The West Coast Regional Council was originally established in November 1989 through the amalgamation of 14 different bodies that previously held regional and resource management roles across the West Coast region.

The council serves communities from Kahurangi Point in the north to Awarua Point in the south, covering a distance of 600 kilometres. The West Coast Regional Council’s responsibilities include managing the region’s land, air and water resources, as well as coordinating transport and emergency management functions.

The council is committed to working with local communities in ways that are forward looking, progressive and innovative to make the West Coast region a strong place to live, work and do business.
